2005 hatte ich Gelegenheit, eine Ausstellung der Werke von Fred Spillmann in Basel/Schweiz zu besuchen. Dieser Mann war ein Unikum zu seiner Zeit und seine Modeentwürfe faszinieren heute noch. Ganz besonders hat es mir „das kleine Schwarze“ angetan, das er mit handgenähten Stoff-Zigarettenkippen dekoriert hat! Quasi als Hommage an ihn habe ich diese Kette gemacht. Es gab schon vorher geperlte Zigaretten, dennoch habe ich sie mir selber erarbeitet, bis die Aschenbecher-Optik stimmte. Der Verschluss ist ein altes Benzinfeuerzeug, das theoretisch immer noch funktionieren würde….
In 2005 I got the opportunity to visit an exhibition of Fred Spillmann’s work in Basel/Switzerland. This guy was a real original in his times and his fashion designs aren’t less fascinating today. I fell in love with his „little black dress“ which he had decorated with tiny hand-stitched fabric cigaret butts. I made this necklace as kind of a homage to him. There have been beaded cigarets before but nevertheless I developed mine all by myself until I thought the ashtray optic was perfect. For the closure I used a vintage gasoline lighter which would actually stilll work…
